Vikram an immensely relieved man these days. It has been too long a wait for the actor, who had his first release after three years this Pongal. After an average Majaa, Vikram wanted Bheemaa, his next film, to be special and the effort shows in the film.

Trade reports carry positive tidings for this film which has been long in the making. That should be sweet news for this versatile actor as he has refused many a prospective film to dedicate time for this project. He could have made a whopping 12 crores if he had taken time off this project, he adds. Now, that is what you call dedication!

The actor says that he was spellbound after hearing the climax of the movie and decided to make it really special. Despite financial losses, Vikram says that he is happy now as his performance has come in for praise from a top actor. His wife too was ecstatic about the climax of the film.

Bheemaa also sees Vikram do action in the Jackie Chan,Jean Claude Van Damme mode. The amazing stunt sequences in the film have bowled fans all over. The film has been sold for 23 crores and is expected to fetch a distributors' share of 1 crore in Tirunelveli-Tanjore belt, which normally happens only for blockbusters.

As an actor, Vikram says, he is open to all kinds of roles. But he is apprehensive about working with debut directors based on his previous experiences. He even goes to the extent of saying that he’ll do experimental roles like in Kasi and Pithamagan, only if the director is an experienced hand.

Talking about his forthcoming Kanthasamy, which is among the most-expected movies of the year, the actor says that the film will be a real treat for kids. The actor has also agreed to do a film with whiz kid Selvaraghavan after Kanthasamy. Bheema , the Vikram starrer had finally made it to the screens after a struggle of three years. While talking to the media on Bheema Cheeyan says, “When the climax scene of Bheema was narrated to me, I was dumbstruck.

I agreed to act in the film just for the climax sequence. The stunt in the movie had come out very well and I have been getting accolades for my work”.

According to Vikram the film was sold for 23 crores and he expects that Tanjore area alone to fetch one crore profit. While discussing about the flipside of agreeing to act in Bheema , Cheeyan says, “As I had promised that I would complete the film, I had stuck on this project for three years. As a result I had given away my salary of 1.5 crore and by not accepting any other offer I have lost ten crores. I have lost a lot in these three years mainly my mental peace”. When questioned about his future projects, Cheeyan states that he is committed to Susi Ganesan’s Kanthaswamy now, after which will be involved in a Selvaraghavan’s venture. He also added that he will act in three films in a year.

'Those who live by the sword, die by the sword', goes the caption at the end of 'Bheema'. It is nothing new; for, we have seen both the caption, and the saga of the gangster and his favourite henchman, in innumerable films earlier. It's again a sense of déjà vu for a viewer here.

Bheema does begin promisingly, and manages to keep viewer's attention engaged for the earlier part. However, as the narration proceeds, the scenes turn repetitive, and the script takes a downslide from which it never recovers. Chinna is a thug, whose men are on a killing spree. But who his victims are, and what really is their crime, is a confused scenario. With Chinna's rival being Periyavar (Raghuvaran), a wobbly aging gangster who could barely speak coherently, there is not much of an intimidating opposition for Chinna. It's a further lost cause for Periyavar, with the entry of the gutsy, one-man-army Shekhar into Chinna's fold. Shekhar had admired Chinna's ways and attitude since childhood and had joined his gang. The police enter the picture in order to end the gang war. But with no proper strategy, it's confusion confounded. Some of the fights are well choreographed, while others are those gravity and bullet- defying ones.

Weaved into this is the love story between Shekar and Shalini (Trisha), and of Chinna's secret love (Lakshmi Gopalasami). It's an ornamental role for Trisha, though there is a futile attempt to thrust her character towards the climax. Songs and dance numbers pop up at inopportune moments causing a lag. . The finale is a weakly etched one, which neither touches a chord, nor evokes any sympathy.

Prakashraj plays Chinna with flair and panache. Thalaivasal Vjay makes his mark as his loyal man. Nevertheless, the saving grace of the film is Vikram. Looking handsome, using his body language to good effect, Vikram plays Shekhar with total involvement and sincerity. The actor is consistently good, even when the script lets him down.

Lingusamy had made well packaged, engrossing, action-packed entertainers like 'Run' and 'Sandakozhi'. 'Bheema' seems to be the weakest of his scripts. Bheema is a film strictly for Vikram's fans.

BHEEMA Movie Review

A lot has been told about the delay over Bheema. Some doomsayers even predicted that the movie would not see the light at all. But the team of Bheema was unperturbed. Vikram once said, "Bheema is a sure winner irrespective of when it comes. It is worth waiting for such a film".

Now the movie has seen the light and it has vindicated Vikram’s words.

The whole team deserves applaud for providing us a neat entertainer. Lingusamy, Vikram, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Raghuvaran, Kanal Kannan, Harris Jayaraj, R.D. Rajasekar and S. Ramakrishnan have done their best to make it a smart and stylish action film. And you have the charming Trisha as a gentle breeze amidst a powerful storm.

The story is all about a tug of war between two underworld gangs trying to outsmart each other. Periyavar’s (Raghuvaran) group is bigger and more powerful, while Chinna’s (Prakash Raj) group is struggling to gain strength.

Enters Shekar (Vikram). The powerful man adds new life to Chinna’s gang. He challenges Periyavar’s powerful troupe and puts China on top. He is the man who grew up seeing Chinna as his ideal. He is a man of steel - physically and mentally. He, as Chinna tells once, bears everyone on his powerful shoulders like the Bheema of Mahabharatha.

The gangs are targeted by the new police commissioner (Ashish Vidyarthi) and the three pronged hunting begins.

Lingusamy has worked out a strong script and executed it with aplomb. He has excellently handled his cast to make it an entertainer. He has to be commended for not restoring to any gimmicks in the pretext of providing entertainment. He is also bold enough to avoid a comedy track, which would have been an irritant in the script.

The characterization is near perfect. Like the legendary Bheema, Shekar is always ready to attack, unmindful of who stands against him. If he puts a step forward, there is no looking back. Powerful, straight forward, and fearlessness. Lingusamy, with the able support of dialogue writer Ramakrishnan, has shaped the character remarkably well. The relationship between Shekar and China is well portrayed.

Likewise, his handling of the track of gang war, entwined with police action, is quite smart. The climax is something unexpected. The picturisation of the songs is spectacular.

Vikram has lived up to the expectations with a dominant and flawless performance. If his hard work to become physically strong is praise worthy, his efforts to transform himself as the character are stunning. He reflects the essence of the character both physically and mentally. His body language - particularly his eyes - is awesome. He breaths fire in the stunt scenes. The fights in the rain and in the construction site (intermission point) are astonishing.

He also scores in romantic sequences, which are very less in this action packed movie. He brings out the transformation in his character because of love in a lovely manner. Hats off to Vikram.

Trisha gets her share in the action movie and succeeds in adding colour to the film by spreading her charm. She looks ravishingly beautiful in songs. Her eyes and minute facial expressions are pleasing.

Prakash Raj comes through out the movie. His character is so powerful that he looks like a second hero. The versatile actor has brought a new dimension to the character of a gangster.

Ashish Vidyarthi in a small yet significant role is competent. His portrayal of a smart police officer, who means business, is flawless. Raghuvaran as Periyavar impresses but his histrionics have become predictable. Sherin in ‘Rangu Rangamma’ is impressive.

Kanal Kanan (action) and Rajashekhar (camera) have added immense value of the film. Kanal’s setting up of the fighting sequences is certainly a treat for action movie lovers. Rajasekhar’s camera work is brilliant. The shooting of intermission fight in the darkness stands out.

Harris Jayaraj’s music, which is already on top, fits well in to the movie. Almost all the songs have come out very well.

Overall, Bheema has lived up to the expectations up to a large extent. Lingusamy and his powerful team have succeeded in presenting an action oriented entertainer. True to its name, Bheema is a power packed action entertainer.

Bheema Ready to Release

The countdown has started. Bheemaa, Vikram - Trisha starrer, directed by Lingusamy is all set to be released on Pongal. The censorship is over and the film is cleared without any cuts.

Vikram is thrilled with the completion of his much-awaited Bheema. It has been quite some time since his last film Maja was released.

Undeterred by the yawning gap, Vikram, says, “Bheema will more than make it up. It would be a treat for my fans, an out and out action-packed entertainer. I would rate it as the best films that I have worked so far. The storyline of director Lingusamy is pulsating.”

“It is an action film shot in a stylish manner. Underworld is just a part of the story. It is a mix of action, romance and sentiments. Lingusamy deserves unstinted praise for his hard work. It is a different film and I had to do rigorous workouts for over six hours everyday to do justice to the role”, he says.

Lingusamy, whose last venture Sandai Kozhi is a big success is confident of repeating the show in Bheema.

As the title suggests, the hero is brawny and brainy. He fights for a cause.

“We have shot song sequences in Switzerland, New Zealand and the famous Thirumalai Naicker Mahal in Madurai”, Says Lingusamy and adds, “The song we shot in Swiss would be a real highlight of the movie. The onscreen chemistry between Vikram and Trisha is worth a mention.

High Court stays Bheema ?

The Madras High Court has put an interim stay on the release of Vikram starred mega budget film Bheema in a case sued by a private financier against the producer of the film.

Right from its launch, the film has been mired in continuous problems. At one stage, the producer A.M.Rathnam washed his hands off the project, and handed over the production in-charge to the director of the movie, Linguswamy. Sources reveal that it was the director himself who arranged finances to complete the film at one stage. Recently, the audio of Bheema was launched in a grand manner, and the director assured everyone present there that the film will be released in September end.

Soon after the announcement came, actor Vijaykanth complained to the Producer's Council to stop the screening of the film until the producer Rathnam cleared his payment dues amounting to Rs.80 lakhs pending with his earlier film Dharmapuri. The negotiations are still going on in front of the Council functionaries to solve the issue amicably.

The successful pair of the hit film Samy, Vikram and Trisha,comes together once again in lead roles in Bheema. Directed by Lingusamy, Bheema sees Prakashraj in an important role.

Harris Jayaraj has created an enjoyable fare deploying an assortment of youthful vocals and a slew of instruments including sarangi, santoor and dilruba predominantly used in Hindustani music. Pa Vijay-Muthukumar-Yugabharathi-Thamarai team's evocative wordscape heightens the lilting quality of the numbers.

The album kickstarts with Oru mugamo, sung by Karthik and this year's National Award winner, Naresh Iyer. It paints a picture of the contradictory facets of the hero's personality.

It is a lively track with mild hip-hop, extra sounds and minimum percussion with predominant drum beats. The enjoyable rhythmic pattern, which incidentally is common with most of the numbers in this album, and ebullient rendition are the core of its appeal.

Following this, we have Mudhal mazhai, which was reportedly shot in Switzerland and has pithy lyrics. The abiding rhythm and easy flowing rendition by Prasanna, Hariharan Mahathi give this romantic melody an alluring simplicity. The lyrics give vent to soft sentiments, fantasies and longings of the lovelorn hearts. Mahathi's dulcet voice has a lisping quality. Minimal percussion as in the earlier track, guitar interlude and good chorus are other highlights of this number. However, there is a reworked feel in certain places.

Rangu rangamma rendered by Vijay Jesudas, Kailash Kher and Swarnalatha is a weighty and vibrant track. The number shot onboard a ship in mid-sea has extended drumbeats relentlessly unleashed in the prelude as well as in the interlude. The accompanying soft anklet sounds give it a mystic feel. Swarnalatha's pliant voice is a perfect foil to Kailash Kher's deep tone and timbre. The number with a raw earthy feel once again gives Vijay Jesudas a chance to break free from the shackles of his usual soulful and doleful repertoire.

Then comes Ragasiya kanavukal, rendered by Hariharan and Madhushree, in a casual leisurely style creating a poetry recital feel. The beginning of this number reportedly shot at Thirumala Naicker Mahal in Madurai, has a mild Hindustani flavour. Excellent rhythmic helpings, inspiring instrumentation and the very brief parallel track in between give this love duet a boost.The number has an appreciable simplicity and serenity.

Siru parvayalae by Karthik and Harini, another love duet, has a folksy whiff with a contemporary style to it. Karthik in full-throated fashion sails through the melodious passages with perfect harmony. Harini gives adequate support with her lilting rendition in her silken yet deep voice. The composer has saved the best for the last with Enathuyirae. Along with Chinmayi, Sadhana Sargam and Soumya Rao, the song introduces a new voice, Nikhil Mathew, the winner of Vijay TV's Airtel super singer contest. Nikhil's voice has tonal depth and he sings excellently. He holds his own creditably well with the other experienced singers. Enathuyirae is a caressingly soothing mood defining number.

All in all Harris Jayaraj offers a good fare despite adopting an orthodox style.

The audio Bheema was released recently at a function in Chennai. The cast and crew of the movie Vikram, Trisha, Harris Jeyraj, Cinematographer R.D. Rajasekar, Editor Antony, Dialogue writer S. Ramakrishnan, lyricists Na. Muthukumar, Yugabharathi and Thamarai, Producer A.M.Rathnam and director N.Lingusamy were present at the event. Director Lingusamy assured the audience that ‘Bheema’ would be an important film for both Vikram and Trisha. Actor Vikram also reiterated this by pointing out the 2 years of hard preparation he has done for the film. The songs have come out well in the ever-exciting style of Harris Jeyaraj.

With Harris in the music director’s seat and Vikram and Trisha in the cast, Bheema is surely going to rock.

Versatile Vikram is all set to stage a cinematic comeback, after about one year, with ‘Bheema’.

Everything about ‘Bheema’ is big. Vikram plays a biggie who is brainy as well. The film comes almost one year after Vikram’s last film Majja the light of the day.

‘Maja’ was a letdown of sorts for the fans of Vikram, who were euphoric over the super success of his earlier movie, Anniyan .

That way, Vicky is pinning big hopes on ‘Bheema’ as he badly needs to shake off the flop that ‘Majaa’ was.

Director of ‘Bheema’, Lingusamy seems confident of ‘Bheema’ hitting the jackpot. Lingusamy’s directorial credentials are impeccable as his last film Deepavali was a big hit.

Lingusamy himself has written the story of ‘Bheema’, which is an out-and-out action thriller.

The song sequences of the film have been shot in Switzerland, New Zealand and the Thirumalai Naicker Mahal in Madurai.

‘Bheema’ also marks the coming together of Vikram and heroine Trisha after a big gap. The last film they did together was ‘Saamy’, another superhit.

The film, which has been produced by A M Rathnam, will have music by noted composer Harris Jayaraj.

The actor has completed the talkie portion of his next release, the much hyped, Lingusamy directed Bheema. Remember that the actor has not had a release since Maaja released on November 1, 2005! His fans across the globe and in India are eagerly waiting to see him back and this news is sure to bring a smile on their faces. Yesterday, Chiyaan completed a special song with Sherin of Thulluvatho Illamai fame in Tuticorin. The song has great significance to the story and is going to be one of the highlights of the film. Vikram spoke to Moviebuzz from the location of the song: “This song Rangu Rangamma…. has shaped out well and was choreographed by Brinda. We shot the song on a souped-up boat and it was not easy to dance on a floating boat”. Later Vikram left for Madurai to complete some patchwork shots and by March 31, he would have completed the entire talkie portion of the film. Now what remains are two songs with Trisha, which will probably be shot in Australia. With that Bheema will be complete and the film will positively release by May. Those who saw some action scenes from the film say that it is mind-blowing and daring. Hats off to producer A.M Ratnam, who has completed the movie against all odds.
